Beware of University Malaya Job Scam

The University of Malaya (UM) has announced that irresponsible parties have been falsely using the name of the UM in an attempt to recruit expatriates and solicit upfront payments from interested job-seekers on the pretense of securing work permits or visas.

In a statement on 20 February, UM wishes to alert members of the public that email communication on “Employment offer letter from University of Malaya, Malaysia” is a scam devised by unscrupulous parties and appeals to the public not to respond to the email.
Additionally, UM wishes to inform that all recruitment exercises are done through its official channels and the university has not authorised nor engaged any third parties or agents to represent the Univeristy in such exercises. Any offer of appointment made through external channels shall be considered fraudulent.

In the statement, it said: “The University of Malaya views this matter seriously and is working closely with the appropriate authorities to effectively address this matter.”
